Twin Towers

I just realized I haven’t posted yet any details or pix about my trip to Malaysia! Though it was only short, it sure was fun and amazing. I saw the famous and once was the tallest building in the world, of course, the Petronas Twin Towers… Haha! Please refrain yourself from laughing how far my shot was! And too bad, our time didn’t allow us anymore to come again at night and witness it glowing and sparkling…

20121019-093505.jpg

I love how their flag was proudly displayed in this building. I’m not sure if there’s any national event or celebration the time we were in Malaysia because I will noticed that their flag was in every corner.

More to come… But for now, sleep is what I need to do! Hehe!

Sparkling Eyes

I think I’ll never get tired of staring at Marina Bay Sands or The Merlion… Or its surrounding… They were breathtaking… Stunning… Awesome. It was so serene. Just looking at them can calm any soul.

Sharing with you my iphone shots, all enhanced using BeFunky! 🙂

LEGOLAND Malaysia

Come September 15, 2012, Malaysia will be the first country in Asia to have its own 76-acre LEGOLAND in Johor Baru. And that’s just sooo sweet as it falls right on schedule for our Singapore-Malaysia vacation!

The countdown has already begun!!

Park Map

LEGOLAND Malaysia is modelled very closely after its sister theme park in Gunzburg, Germany. It will have seven main areas, over 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions including six dining spots, the biggest LEGO shop in Asia and a unique MINILAND featuring Malaysia’s own Petronas Twin Towers, Cambodia’s Angkor Wat, India’s Taj Mahal and many more iconic landmarks.

I am now officially excited to visit Malaysia!!!

Jampacked Weekend

I always get excited whenever weekend comes, especially now that I’ve found my soulmates/buddies that have same enthusiasm and energy in trying new things. Whatever or wherever it may be! 😀

Right after our friday shift ended, so that’s already Saturday morning, just out of the blue, my team was craving for seafood. And when you say seafood, Dampa is definitely the place to be! The place is just so affordable and big, with so many choices and it can accommodate a whole team or clan! Really suitable for any event. I know that at some point in your teambuildings/celebrations, you got your cravings satisfied here.

So you know the drill. Once you arrive here, choose a resto where you want to dine. We chosed HongKong Lion, the place have private/airconditioned rooms with free 2hrs videoke. Since we’d be busy devouring our food, we opted to watch a movie over singing our lungs out. Once you’re settled, then it’s time to visit the market and search for the freshest catch you can find. Don’t forget to haggle! After that just give instructions to the resto how’d you want them to be cooked. See madali lang! 🙂

Before

After

Result: Happy, Satisfied People!

And if you think that my day’s already over even if I’ve still got no sleep. Well, well, well, sayang ang weekend! After having sumptous breakfast with my teammates, I headed to Glorietta to watch a movie with my lunch/gala buddies. And btw highway, I saw in Play&Display these plastic chairs with beautiful carvings! They come on different bright colors and I can’t decide what color I like to buy.
LOL I’d really buy one once we’re settled in our new house! Lurve it!!!

Finally, was able to go home at around 6pm. Absolutely, knockout sa pagod at antok! 🙂

Come Sunday, as usual, ang makakating paa hindi pa rin mapigil. Even if it’s already late, we’ve decided to go to Cloud9, located all the way to Antipolo. The heat in Manila is just so unbearable that we were craving for a cooler place. Even if no one actually knows exactly how to go there, go lang! We originally wanted to go to Crescent Moon Cafe, but no one was answering their line, we’re not sure if reservation is needed.

Going to Cloud9, good thing that meet up was in Megamall and there’s terminal there for FXs going to Antipolo. The gentleman in front of the queue was kind enough to give us instructions on how to find the place. From Our Lady of Peace & Good Voyage (which we also had a chance to catch a mass), you just have to ride a jeepney going to Cubao, it will pass by Cloud9. Yakang yaka lang!

The out-of-nowhere, spur-of-the-moment trip was well worth it. The view was breathtaking! Too bad we’ve got no decent camera since this trip wasn’t really planned at all. All pictures were taken, as usual, with iP4. Two thumbs up also for the food. How relaxing to just stare at the city lights of the Metro Manila, while being serenaded also.

My First Real Visita Iglesia

As I’ve mentioned in my previous post, we still had work last Maundy Thursday, thus, there’s no chance to have a real Visita Iglesia. So I just contented myself in browsing all the churches I got to see in previous trips. I swear, I haven’t really done a real Visita Iglesia in my whole life (sheepish grin…). So when Tin, just out of nowhere texted on Saturday morning asking if I want to join her, go agad! 😀 Tagging Jie along, off we went at around 12 noon, even if not sure if there were churches open.

In fairness, all of the churches we’ve been too made me marvel on their own unique styles. In my opinion, churches have the most intricate, fascinating, and intricate designs. Plus they have the best lightings.

Sta. Ana Church
~ growing up, I used to go to this church since this was just near, around 3-5mins drive away from our house.
I had here my first communion 🙂

National Shrine of St. Jude Thaddeus
~ first time to visit, a simple church near Malacañang.

National Shrine Of St. Micheal & The Archangels
~ first time to visit, I liked the altar. St. Sealtiel was kind of hard to pronounce, hehe!

Our Lady of Loreto Church
~ first time to visit, I liked it’s door.

San Antonio De Padua
~ first time to see, this was practically just beside Our Lady of Loreto Church!
Too bad, closed that day.

UST Church (Santissimo Rosario Parish)
~ first time to visit this church and also see what’s inside UST. I find this school sooo full of architectural eye candy! The church alone boasts of interesting patterns from floor to ceiling.
Two thumbs up!

Cathedral-Basilica of the Immaculate Conception of Manila
~ popularly known as Manila Cathedral. I once had a chance to go inside this during Cory Aquino’s wake.
Too bad, closed also.

San Agustin Church of Manila
~ when I was in college, Anne Frank’s exhibit was held here. I was a volunteer tourguide, so I had the liberty to explore the church, including its museum and garden 😀 How I miss this church! I made Jie & Tin swore that we’ll come back here when the musuem and garden is open again. If you want to see magnificent and extravagant carvings, chandeliers and patterns, this is the place to go to. Not to mention that since it’s located in Intramuros area, Spanish era and vibe is still alive and evident everywhere.

Basilica of the Black Nazarene
~ popularly known as Quiapo Church. Our last stop. I just realized how much I’ve taken for granted this church. Because most of the time, we just drop by here to say a little prayer then head out to wherever we are going without really lingering to appreciate it’s interiors. The church was dim-lighted which added somehow to the calmness and serenity of the place, two adjectives that’s quite surprisingly I used for this church.

And a few extras along the way, highway!

1-2. “Alay-lakad” from St. Jude to St. Michael; 3-4. Freedom Park, sad that it was already bandalized; 5-6-7. picture picture while walking around Malacañang Palace; 8. I find this gate sooo cute; 9. Jie and I “tamang-tambay lang” in Our Lady of Loreto Church; 10-11-12. still in Loreto, a wall decoration, door and statue.

1. 400th year; 2. walkway going to church; 3-4. again interesting structures, all inside UST

1-2-3. still inside UST, we sure had fun; 4. Jie & Tin at Manila Cathedral; 5. Tamayo’s; 6-7-8. all inside San Agustin, I find sooo creepy the saints in black; 9. this cute carving was one of my subjects back in my photography class in college; 10. ceiling of Shakey’s in Port Area, church glass lang ang peg; 11-12. decors in Quiapo Church

Overall, it was Ãœber fun and I truly enjoyed this spur-of-the-moment, out-of-schedule Visita Iglesia.
Hopefully, next year we’d be able to do this again 🙂

My Own Way of Visita Iglesia

While everyone was busy with Visita Iglesia, I’m stuck here in the office working. Well, business as usual. I can’t help but browse all the beautiful churches I’ve seen so far. As I’ve mentioned before, I really want to make a compilation or album of all these churches. I really find them fascinating and magnificent. I may not have taken seriously my worldlit (ayayay! can’t remember anymore the subjects I’ve taken in college where we were thought about architectural designs! Napaghahalata!) Anyways, I may not know specifically how their designs were called, but I know how to appreciate their different structure/forms (Naks! Pabibo lang!) 😀

Sagadan sa Sagada

Chatting with my classmate about her recent trip to Sagada made me miss soooo much the place! If given a chance, I’d like to go back there again and stay for a week! (of course that’s the longest I can take a leave from work). If you are also planning on conquering Sagada, be sure you have all the energy needed to survive and enjoy all of its strenous, heart-pounding activities and chilling weather!

Tuguegarao + Aparri

Honestly, I only wanted to visit this place because I was fascinated with the church inside the Callao Cave.

Our flight via Cebu Pacific was delayed for 1-hour due to unorganized set-up during check-in. People can just transact to any counter available, thus they couldn’t control who they need to prioritize or sort out people with specific flights. Result, we’re all aboard but still couldn’t take off since we’re still waiting for some passengers that were stuck in the check-in counters! Okay, so we waited for 30 mins and then another 30 mins because of air traffic.

Touchdown to Tuguegarao, the airport was small but decent (looks larger than Tagbilaran Airport). Once inside, the old campaign for tourism, WoW Philippines – Cagayan Valley Region gives away brochures and maps for free, get one, this will be very helpful.

We opted to stay at Hotel Ivory, since this was the only one that responded to our inquiry. There’s really not much you can see when you browse the net for places to stay. I’ve sent an inquiry to Las Palmas but no response ever! I’ve also tried calling Candice Hotel (but an old lady answered and was angry telling that that’s her private number, hmmm Candice Hotel should really check out the info they’re posting in their web!) Well, Hotel Ivory was still a nice place to stay and it’s affordable too! The staffs were all accommodating and friendly. Their rooms have cables, hot & cold shower, with free wi-fi too. Quite near the airport also, around 10-15 minutes away. They also have a pool, which you can use for only Php79.00, but trust me, you wouldn’t really wanna use it! Check it out first before you use it, that’s all I’m saying.

Very hungry due to our delayed flight, we headed out once we’re able to secure our belongings. Not really knowing where we can dine, we just asked the tricycle driver we hailed for any place he would suggest. Well, it turned out to be a big mistake because he brought us to Jomar’s Bulalohan and Panciteria. The worst place you can imagine. Believe me, you wouldn’t wanna eat here at any cost! LOL! I swear, they’ve got the saltiest Bulalo one could ever imagine! We we’re also looking forward to tasting Tuguegarao’s Pancit Cabagan. Everyone around looks like they were really enjoying eating it.

Verdict: We also didn't like it

On our first night, we dined out at Koby Kubo. From the hotel you’ll just hail a tricycle, it will only cost around Php50 or 60 a ride. This was near Victory Liner’s station and Brickstone Mall. Koby Kubo serves quite affordable meals and they’ve got very delicious Pinakbet and Paksiw.

The bekis I’m with doesn’t want to call it a night yet so they urged the tricycle driver to take us to a club or any night spot they can hangout. So off he drove us to Elleyma Resto, well that’s what the sign says. But lo and behold, I figured it’s a resto during day time but turns into a club at night! Imagine, there were literally teenager boys queueing just to get inside! This was the first time I actually saw how beki’s do their “booking!” At this point, I’m no longer comfortable with what’s happening, so Aiko and I just opted to go home early. I’m not being righteous or what, but hey, I’ve got two teenage brothers and the idea of these young boys hooking with gays doesn’t really sit well with me. I realized that it’s another story when the bekis tell us their booking adventures, compared to actually witnessing it.

I can say, our second day was spent ala Bisita Iglesia! We felt sooooo holy after visiting all those churches! Quite the anti-thesis of what happened last night huh! We rented a van to take us around. You actually don’t have any choice when it comes to tour packages being offered here. Tuguegarao wasn’t really a commercialized vacation destination, like Bohol or Palawan.

OUR LADY OF PIAT ~ this was a one-hour ride from our hotel. I bought as a souvenir a little relic of the patron saint for my mom and a colorful rosary for me. There’s actually a priest readily available to bless these holy artifacts. Before we left, we also bought their delicacy Pawa, made of sticky rice with grinded peanuts on the inside, 10 pieces for only Php25.00.

JUBILEE CROSS CHAPEL ~ very quaint little chapel.

CALVARY HILLS ~ this was just at the back of Jubilee Cross Chapel. Very spacious and very relaxing. This is a favorite pilgrimage site during the Lenten Season since it has larger than life concrete statues of the 14 Stations of the Cross. It is located on top of an 11 hectare rolling hills in Iguig. If time will permit, I can just spend my whole afternoon here.

ST. CLARE MONASTERY ~ very interesting architecture. I actually believed it when they told me that you have to offer eggs to the nuns! But it’s just fine if you’re going to offer monetary. You can also make a wish by writing on a piece of paper and then drop it to the boxes. The nuns will include whatever wish you have into their prayers.

We also passed by Buntun Bridge, the longest river bridge in the country connecting Tuguegarao City proper and the town of Solano. The bridge crosses the famous Cagayan River.

20120305-081909.jpg

Then we had our lunch in Kusina Cagayana, only Php180.00 for an All Filipino Buffet (super affordable!). Two thumbs up for very delicious food. I also enjoyed their dessert area, where you can make your own Halo-Halo! 🙂

After lunch, we headed to my most awaited moment out of this whole trip!

Callao Cave was actually in Penablanca, Cagayan. Also roughly less than an hour ride from Tuguegarao. You’d know you’re near when you can already see the Pinacanauan River. You can go boat riding, kayaking, rafting and swimming here. Surprisingly, this wasn’t a running river!

20120305-074132.jpg

Callao Cave consists of 7 explorable chambers (The Column, Chapel, Skeleton, Elephant’s Head, Praying Angel, Rocket, Lion’s Head and Dog’s Head). You will find the man-made church in the second chamber. Our tourguide said that mass was still celebrated here, but only on special occassions. Inside the cave you’ll see the usual fascinating rock formations and limestones. The path was quite muddy and sliperry. Some areas doesn’t really have much lighting, so one should be really really careful! The church was very serene plus very relaxing, you’d instantly feel the cool breeze coming from the other chambers. I would love to spend some time here and pray, or just waste time and contemplate on things 🙂

20120305-075737.jpg

20120305-075756.jpg

20120305-075813.jpg

20120305-085852.jpg

Though, the place was very calming, I still can’t help but notice how the place was being neglected, not really well-maintained. Also sadly, you’d see that some of the limestones where already bandalized! Nakakalungkot! The local government should really preserve this place.

20120305-080444.jpg

20120305-080455.jpg

20120305-082914.jpg

I told you, the place was muddy and slippery, so it’s bound to happen to someone so clumsy to get out of balance! Hehe, but no worries, exploring this cave wouldn’t be complete without these bloopers (palusot!) 😀

A little trivia about our tourguide.

We also stopped by at Pinacanauan River to freshen up a little. Then two more churches on the way back. You know what, with all those churches I saw, I’m really contemplating on compiling pictures of these beautiful architectures!

ST. PETER & PAUL METROPOLITAN CATHEDRAL ~ largest cathedral of the north

ST. HYACINTH CHURCH

Come dinner time, we don’t know again where to dine. Kainan Pilipino was already closed so we asked again the tricycle driver we hailed to bring us somewhere worth dinning. This time, we were brought to Leng-Leng’s, I think this was also along the highway where Koby Kubo was. Trust me, they have the best Lomi and Sinangag! Again very affordable too! 🙂

20120305-094421.jpg

On day three, we opted to go to Aparri since there’s nothing much more to explore in Tuguegarao. We would have opted to go to Sta. Ana, the so-called Boracay of the North, but we do not have time anymore to spare for this trip. We were advised that you have to stay overnight to really enjoy the place. The earliest trip going there was around 8am, travel time was roughly 3 hours and then the last trip would be at 1pm. Imagine, we’d have only 2 hours to spare to enjoy the beach (sayang!).

Before we head out for Appari, we had our lunch in Kainang Pilipino. Buffet here costs only Php180.00. Well, did you notice that all of the eat-all-you-can resto’s here were very affordable? Food was great, two thumbs up again, and they also have dessert area where you can make your own Halo-Halo! Super duper like! 😀

The trip to Aparri was so filled with “are we there yet?!” Hahahahaha! Kaloka! Okay, I’m exaggerating a bit. Travel from Tuguegarao to Appari was only 2-hours, but it took almost 3-hours to reach the place since there were so many stopbys to pick up passengers. The van fare was Php150.00 per person.

I didn’t even imagine that someday I’d be actually able to visit this place. As a child, I only hear it on Eat Bulaga’s opening song! (Aminin mo, dun mo rin lang naririnig ‘tong lugar na ‘to noh at dun mo rin lang nalaman na nasa dulo sya ng Pilipinas!) 😛

We saw where the Cagayan River and South China See meets. The place somehow looks like a dumpsite due to surrounding industries. I saw our rival company have a depot here, tsk tsk! There were also Japanese owned industries that added up to the pollution of this place.

Going home, the bus fare was only Php60.00. Then there’s a stop over at Teano Alcala Milk Candy store. They were quite famous for candies made of carabao’s milk. Dinner time was spent again at Leng-Leng’s, I told you, the place instantly became our fave. Then, homebound the next day.

So that’s how our whole Tuguegarao + Aparri trip went.

Toodles!

Hot Air Balloon

Today’s the start of the annual Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clarkfield, Pampanga. Last year, I went there to see those big balloons! 🙂

I was with my high school classmates and some officemates. Unfortunately, even after numerous reminders to be on time for meet up of 5am so we’d be there by 6am, as usual Filipino time. We finally arrived in the venue at around past 6am, the sky’s clear already and we only saw few balloons. They were actually inflating the balloons in wee hours because the weather’s still cool and humid. We just settled ourselves to whatevers left to see.

20120210-020332.jpg20120210-020344.jpg20120210-020351.jpg20120210-020357.jpg20120210-020422.jpg20120210-020427.jpg

Our favorite pizza store was one of the sponsors, Yellowcarb, este, Yellow Cab 🙂

Just for fun, we had our pictures taken with our rival company! Ahehe! 🙂

20120210-020911.jpg

There were also displays of different Air Force planes.

I also saw some cutie cute babies!

20120210-021448.jpg

20120210-021455.jpg

Come noon, while waiting for another set of balloon inflations, there were paragliding exhibitionists.

20120210-021630.jpg

Souvenir, which was a bit expensive, in my opinion.

20120210-021725.jpg

Past 5pm, they’ve started to inflate the balloons again, but they didn’t really fly them anymore.

20120210-021841.jpg

20120210-021847.jpg

See, this is so last year, Underground River was already declared as one of the 7 Wonders of the World! 🙂

20120210-021859.jpg

20120210-022105.jpg

20120210-022114.jpg

If in case you’d like to experience riding in one of the balloons, I think it costs around Php8,000.00. And it doesn’t really go like up, up and away! LOL!
